I was on the train from London Kings Cross to visit my parents last week.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Chinese woman was sitting next to me.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She told me that she\u2019d just graduated from university in Leeds. She LOVED the UK.<\/span><\/p>\n

She said she\u2019d become more confident since moving there to study.<\/span><\/p>\n

I was intrigued.<\/span><\/p>\n

When people ask me how to build confidence, I always tell them this:<\/span><\/p>\n

Confidence comes from competence.<\/span><\/p>\n

And confidence comes from practice.<\/span><\/p>\n

So to build confidence, it\u2019s important to practice the thing that you want to have confidence in.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s quite simple when you think about it. And anyone can do it \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n

But it seemed to be different in her case.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So I asked her what made her more confident.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Her answer was something I hadn\u2019t considered.<\/span><\/p>\n

She said, \u201cI became more confident because people accepted me.\u201d<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>In China, she said that she\u2019d always been worried that she wasn\u2019t good enough.<\/span><\/p>\n

But in the UK, people didn\u2019t seem to judge her in the same way.<\/span><\/p>\n

So she felt more confident.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Then I realized that this is a fast track to build confidence: surround yourself with supportive people. You\u2019ll immediately feel better about yourself.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
