After all, during my 10 years with McKinsey Japan, I\u2019d received the highest performance evaluation\u2014\u201cDistinctive.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But later, after starting my own business, I saw it clearly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, I\u2019m strong in people development and communication.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But long-term planning? Tracking numbers? Detailed delegation and evaluation? <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Definitely<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> outside my Zone of Genius.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Yes, I can teach these things to others\u2014but the thought of doing them regularly myself makes me feel slightly nauseous! \ud83d\ude05)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s why I have a fabulous team to support me \ud83d\udc95<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019ve never thought much about the distinction between <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">manager<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">leader<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, here\u2019s a quick comparison:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=&#8221;https:\/\/sasugacommunications.com\/ja\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Manager-vs.-Leader.png&#8221; title_text=&#8221;Manager vs. Leader&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; width=&#8221;500px&#8221; module_alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; custom_margin=&#8221;-5px||0px||false|false&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; header_text_color=&#8221;#8300e9&#8243; custom_margin=&#8221;||0px||false|false&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;||0px||false|false&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019ve long seen myself as a leader\u2014in my corporate career, NPO board work, running my business, and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But lately, I\u2019ve been leaning into a different identity:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2728 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A guide.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My clients are the real leaders\u2014even if they don\u2019t always recognize that in themselves at first.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They\u2019re the heroines and heroes of the story.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And I\u2019m more like a guide\u2026 or maybe a Fairy Godmother \ud83e\udd23<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I like to pop up at just the right time to offer clarity, skills, and encouragement\u2014helping you to surprise yourself with what you can do and who you can be \u2728<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of my female Japanese clients said, \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u3044\u3064\u3082\u306e\u81ea\u5206\u306a\u3089\u7d76\u5bfe\u306b\u3084\u3089\u306a\u3044\u3067\u3042\u308d\u3046\u3053\u3068\u304c\u51fa\u6765\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d \ud83d\udc95<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019ve also realized I do my best work in focused bursts\u2014not in constant operational mode.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maybe you\u2019ve noticed something similar in yourself?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\ud83c\udf31 Not everyone works the same way.
