One of the funniest moments I remember from my ten years with McKinsey was when I sent an internal chat message to a young consultant who\u2019d done something that I appreciated. I can\u2019t remember now what he\u2019d done, but I\u2019ll never forget what happened later that day.<\/p>\n
The consultant came and told me that he\u2019d been giving a presentation when, suddenly, the chat box popped open in the middle of his slides \u2013 in front of the entire audience \u2013 with the message from me: \u201cYou\u2019re a star!\u201d<\/p>\n
Well, that\u2019s one way to have an impact in your presentation!<\/p>\n
Fortunately, the audience was amused and even more interested in listening to him. He was a star, after all.<\/p>\n
Why am I telling you this story today? Three reasons:<\/p>\n
1. It’s\u00a0a reminder that it\u2019s usually best to disable notifications during your presentations<\/b>.<\/p>\n
2. It’s\u00a0as a reminder that a \u201cWow!\u201d moment \u2013 something to create an emotional connection with your audience<\/b> \u2013 can have a great impact in your presentations.<\/p>\n
3. I wanted to say, \u201cThank you. You\u2019re a star!\u201d<\/p>\n
Why am I saying you’re a star? Because you\u2019re reading this. You\u2019re the reason that I run my business — whether you\u2019re a regular or first-time reader, whether you\u2019re a corporate client or an individual who\u2019s taken one of my online courses. It\u2019s because you\u2019re there<\/b> for me to share my expertise and experiences with that I can run my business.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s almost four years since I stepped off the corporate ladder\u00a0and set up as a sole proprietor the following day. And this week marks one year since I established Sasuga Communications K. K. as a company.<\/p>\n
