Before I get into the blog challenge, let me tell you why I’m doing this.

Three reasons (gotta love threes!):

It’s an opportunity to be open. Over the next 10 days, I’ll be answering questions from Natalie Sisson’s 10 Day Freedom Plan Blog Challenge. I’ll be contemplating and sharing thoughts on topics that I might not normally cover in posts about how to communicate with more clarity and confidence in the global workplace. For example, the first topic focuses on two challenges that are holding me back from achieving my ideal lifestyle. I’ll tell you honestly.

It’s an opportunity to build trust. Being open is crucial for building trust and trust is crucial for successful business communication. We don’t listen to people we don’t trust. I’d like you to be able to trust me, so that I can share communication tips and techniques with you – whether that’s in person or online.

It’s an opportunity to offer more online. I gave myself the added challenge of making this a vlog challenge. That means that I’ll post a video and transcript every day. Wow, I shudder at the thought of that, but let’s see how it goes. I want to be able to offer more to you online – for you to watch, listen to, or read whenever and wherever you want to.

Okay, so let’s go.

Hello! I am excited to be starting Day 1 of Natalie’s 10 Day Freedom Plan Blog Challenge.

And the topic for today is two or three challenges that are holding you back from achieving your freedom lifestyle.

So I’ll start off by saying that I think I’m pretty close to actually achieving my ideal freedom lifestyle. Life is pretty good. But there are a couple of things that do hold me back. And actually when I think about them, it’s probably one big challenge that can be split into two.

So I think the overall challenge for me is taking on too much. Maybe that sounds familiar to you?

I think you can split that into two things: the bright shiny object syndrome and people pleasing.

So for bright shiny object syndrome — you may have heard this expression, very common among entrepreneurs, to want to do the new thing and move on, and it’s all very exciting. But sometimes that means that I don’t make the most of what I’ve already been working on or I leave things in a way that is not as organized as it could be. So I’m wasting time later on. That is one. Bright shiny object syndrome.

The second part of this is people pleasing. And I know that this is very common as well among us as human beings. Most of us want to be part of a group. We want to be accepted by the group. We like to please people. We are kind of hardwired in that way as human beings. So I very often will say yes to people.

For example if a client says, “I want a workshop or a coaching session at this particular time,” I have a tendency to then squeeze my time, so that I can fit in with their schedule. Which leads to stress and has led to burnout in the past.

So I think those are my two big challenges: bright shiny object syndrome and people pleasing, leading to the overall challenge of taking on too much.

So I hope this has given you some food for thought and that you find it a little bit useful.
