As you advance in your career and start to lead more meetings, you may face the common difficulty here in Japan of getting people to speak up – especially now that many meetings are online.
I remember when I published my book Eigo no Shigoto-jutsu back in 2016 and was presenting at one of Tokyo’s big bookstores. After the event, one of the staff said he was amazed that I was able to get audience members to actually talk to each other and to speak up and ask lots of questions. He said that never usually happened.
Well, it’s really simply a matter of setting some guidelines and helping people to feel comfortable to speak. You can use these in any meeting situation – whether in person or online.
In Episode 117 of the Sasuga! Podcast, you’ll hear
- The 3 essentials to start a productive meeting
- How to create a supportive environment and encourage others to share their opinions

Enjoy!
