– a conversation with Kanako Machidori
When human resources manager Kanako Machidori started running more than 10 years ago, her maximum was 200 meters.
Gradually, she increased her distance until she ran in her first half marathon. Kanako thought it would be impossible for her to ever run a full marathon.
But then, four years ago, her husband decided to participate in a full marathon. And since Kanako usually ran alongside her husband, she “accidentally” entered the full marathon too – even though she didn’t really feel ready for it.
Since then, Kanako has completed six full marathons! Three of those were in Honolulu.
That’s where she first encountered pacemakers.
A pacemaker is an experienced runner who follows the course along with the participants to set the optimum running pace.
She said that, with a pacemaker, she felt incredibly strong and able to go beyond her capability. She thought that she would love to have pacemakers in her life and be a pacemaker for others.
In my recent conversation with Kanako on Episode 102 of the Sasuga! Podcast, she talks about the pacemakers she’s found for her personal and professional development.
