How do you feel when you’re in a meeting – maybe online – and you’re suddenly asked a question that you weren’t prepared for?

This is a huge concern that I often hear from my clients. They don’t want to be embarrassed by not having a clear answer. Can you relate?

Here’s a specific example from one Japanese businesswoman. She said,

Last night, I had a global group call of 15 people, including our senior team, and was asked a few questions on the spot that I wasn’t prepared for. I think my answer was terrible, disorganized, and so messed up. How do you answer questions that you can’t prepare for? When I look back, I think I should’ve been more 落ち着いた (more relaxed) and taken time to think what to say.

Well, yes, she’s right about that last part.

In Episode 93 of the Sasuga! Podcast, you’ll hear my top tips to answer unexpected questions clearly and confidently as well as

  • 3 reasons why paraphrasing is so powerful
  • What to do if you need more time to think

Enjoy!
