As Golden Week approaches, will you be traveling?

When you’re on holiday, do you switch off completely or are you still doing some work?

In the past, I was constantly overworking. I always had my BlackBerry and laptop with me even when I was in Thailand or the UK with family.

Then, after experiencing burnout more than once and working with multiple coaches, I learned the value of prioritizing my wellbeing and time with my family.

As you read this, I’ll be in Thailand on our first overseas family holiday since the pandemic started. So exciting! 🙂

A part of me wanted to get all of my work done before heading to Haneda Airport. But I have lots of exciting things coming up (a free webinar for women in business on April 29, my 10-year business celebration, and the upgraded VIP program, and new training and coaching requests from some of my favorite corporate clients),

I recognized that I had a choice:

  1. Attempt to do everything and feel under pressure (also not be able to enjoy time with my daughter who’s visiting from the UK)
  2. Say no to some things and/or lower my standards
  3. Have fun doing what I could before I left and then enjoy doing little bits in Thailand

I chose #3 (with #2 as a backup!).

This works especially well because Keri has her final university exam coming up and wants to study, so I can do a bit of work during those times. Plus the relaxing resort environment is great for my creativity.

So I wanted to leave you with 2 messages as Golden Week approaches:

You always have a choice.
Do what works for you 🙂
