When I was in my teens – before I started karate – I used to practice judo.

One time, a male opponent got me into an arm lock on the mat.

The normal thing to do here is to tap twice to indicate submission.

But I didn’t. I didn’t want to give in or give up.

And I ended up with a broken arm – which I was rather proud of at the time.

This pattern of refusing to give in or give up repeated itself over and over in my life and in my career.

Many see this sort of determination as a positive.

And it can be helpful.

But continuing to do something without occasionally questioning its implications or value can also be unhelpful and even harmful.

I would say it was a big factor leading to me experiencing burnout more than once.

Have you ever pushed yourself to continue something without considering whether it’s really for the best?

In today’s episode of the Sasuga! Podcast, you’ll hear
