Accidents happen – at work, at home, and when you’re out having fun.
How do you react in those situations?
What do you learn from those situations?
I was visiting family in the UK from Japan. We went on a day trip to a village in North Yorkshire for our traditional annual picnic with close friends.
A picturesque river flows through the center of the village and has around 10 stepping stones to cross from the grassy picnic area to the roadside.
As we were crossing, I heard my mum behind me saying, “Oh, these stepping stones seem further apart than before…”
Then she somehow lost her balance.
As I turned around I saw her falling into the river.
Fortunately, the water wasn’t deep, but the riverbed was rocky.
I jumped into the water to help her and others came to the rescue too.
She was worried that she’d made a fool of herself, but I was more concerned with her injuries.
For a few steps, her adrenaline was high from the accident and she couldn’t feel the pain. But then it became clear that she couldn’t walk.
