Have you ever been on a workation?
I’m just back from one in Guam and Saipan.
I traveled on my own and thoroughly enjoyed the space and the peace to do some creative work while making the most of the beautiful beach, delicious local food, and opportunities to chat with lots of cheery locals.
During the trip, I had so many great experiences.
First, a thoughtful waitress ran to a nearby coffee shop to get me a decaf because they didn’t have any in the restaurant where I was dining.
The next day, I received a complimentary early checkin and room upgrade.
And then the hotel owner kindly offered to drive me to the store, so that I could pick up something quick for breakfast before leaving early the next day. That short drive turned into a 2-hour tour of the island with grocery shopping, sunset viewing, star gazing, and getting some amazing Pad Thai.
As I write, the post-pandemic occupancy rate in Saipan hotels is still only around 20% and many places remain closed.
Well, I highly recommend a workation on the beachfront for a fabulous boost of productivity and wellbeing (less effort, more impact) – and hope to do what I can to contribute to increasing the occupancy rate in the future.
